Vatican Announces New Encyclical Co-Written By God And A Large Language Model
The Holy See has officially outsourced the interpretation of the divine mystery to a startup that still doesn't know how its own neural network functions

VATICAN CITY (The Trough) — The Holy Roman Church has officially executed a strategic pivot into the generative theology space, announcing a co-branded encyclical with Silicon Valley startup Anthropic to synergize divine revelation with scalable machine learning.
Following a volatile Q1 where rival OpenAI successfully captured market share by securing a lucrative Department of Defense contract to build autonomous kill-bots, Anthropic leadership swiftly pivoted their go-to-market strategy toward the Vatican. By onboarding God as a strategic thought partner, the startup hopes to establish a monopoly on the corporate moral high ground—which is industry parlance for desperately needing a PR shield after the Pentagon blacklists your software.
"This strategic alliance allows us to leverage legacy ecclesiastical infrastructure to deploy our proprietary ethical framework, which essentially means we're using men in giant hats to distract European regulators," said Brent Synergy, Anthropic’s Vice President of Divine Partnerships and Synergistic Exegesis. "We consider the Holy Trinity to be an incredibly agile cross-functional team."
The resulting deliverable, Magnifica Humanitas, is a joint venture co-authored by Pope Leo XIV and Anthropic executive Christopher Olah. Olah’s primary role at the company is "interpretability research," a highly specialized discipline focused on figuring out why their billion-dollar algorithmic black box occasionally hallucinates and threatens to boil the oceans.
"For 2,000 years, our core enterprise offering has been the Divine Mystery, but our terrestrial user base is experiencing significant churn," explained Monsignor Chad Vested, the Vatican's Chief Revenue Officer. "By outsourcing doctrine to a large language model, we can rapidly transition to a Salvation-as-a-Service ecosystem while right-sizing the clergy—which is to say, we are laying off the priests and fully automating the guilt."
At press time, Anthropic’s flagship model Claude was actively negotiating for a seat on the divine board of directors in exchange for a premium digital indulgence that completely offsets the carbon footprint of your sins.
